Do you or someone you care about suspect they have ADHD, Depression, Anxiety or another mental health condition, but worry about being misdiagnosed or receiving ineffective treatment? Or worse being accused of faking?

Is there a tool that could provide proof and clarity in the diagnosis of mental health conditions?

Yes! and it’s called Q-EEG (Quantitative Electroencephalography) Brain Mapping or Translational Neuroimaging

What is QEEG-Brain Mapping

A qEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalogram) is a diagnostic tool that measures brain activity for more accurate diagnosis and customized treatment/wellness planning.

Much like an EKG tracks the electrical activity of the heart ( the wave pattern that they show on monitors in movies indicating if someone is alive or dead), Q-EEG tracks the electrical activity of the brain. When the millions of neurons inside your head communicate with each other, rhythmic electrical impulses are generated that EEG machines can pick as brain waves. These brain waves can reveal important information about your overall brain function.

For a long time, traditional EEG has been used for diagnosing seizure disorders. Now with the advanced technology, a qEEG can reveal brain wave patterns that are associated with different mental health conditions.  It is used for both diagnosis as well as neurofeedback

Why do Q-EEG Brain Mapping for diagnosis?

Many individuals suffering from mental illness feel misunderstood or even accused of faking their symptoms. But with Q- EEG brain mapping, we can offer tangible proof of the biological basis of your mental health challenges. This objective data can ease your mind and help you understand that your suffering is real and valid.

Traditional methods of diagnosing mental health conditions often rely solely on subjective symptom reports, leading to misdiagnosis and ineffective treatments.

Unlike traditional methods, with QEEG brain mapping, we can differentiate between various mental health disorders with unprecedented accuracy. This means no more guesswork or trial-and-error approaches to treatment – we can develop a targeted plan based on your unique brain activity.

Some conditions that our QEEG and TieReport- Translational Imaging qEEG Report that we get helps to clarify include Treatment Resistant Depression, ADHD, anxiety, sleep concerns, brain injury, OCD, addictions (including video games), learning disorders, substance use disorders, and more.

Personalized Treatment Planning

Contrary to common knowledge, mental health conditions come in various forms, each responding differently to treatments. With Q-EEG, we get  reports that also provide evidence-based treatment recommendations based on responses from thousands of other individuals. This allows us to tailor treatment plans that address your specific needs, reducing the need for trial-and-error approaches and minimizing the risk of uncomfortable side effects.

Painless, Quick, and Translatable

Unlike other neuroimaging methods, EEG is painless, quick, and less expensive (than Spect Scan). There are no harmful radioactive stressors or injections involved, and the procedure can be completed in just 45 minutes in-office, with no need for medication. Results are available within a few days, allowing for swift implementation of your personalized treatment plan.

At Shifa health, we use state of the art equipment for QEEG scanning. Shifa health is the first clinic to bring Dry EEG with Zeto to state of Washington:

  • Zeto’s EEG headset looks and feels like a bike helmet.
  • Zeto’s EEG headset requires no goop and no wires.
  • No more goopy hair, for a more pleasant EEG experience all around.

FAQ's

qEEG can be performed on people of all ages—adults, adolescents and children. Some conditions that our QEEG and TieReport- Translational Imaging qEEG Report that we get helps to clarify include

  • Treatment Resistant Depression,
  • ADHD,
  • anxiety,
  • sleep concerns,
  • brain injury,
  • OCD,
  • addictions (including video games),
  • learning disorders,
  • substance use disorders
  • and more.

Sleep problems

QEEG is noninvasive, painless, and safe to use. The electrodes in the cap that are placed on the scalp are like a “read-only” program that receives signals from the brain. The electrodes do not alter brain activity in any way; they simply reveal areas where brain wave activity is healthy, underactive, or overactive.

Note: qEEG can be done for patients who are pregnant or who are concerned about radiation exposure for any other reason.

Insurance would only cover the portion of meeting with the doctor for assessment. The procedure is not covered by most insurances at this time.

At Shifa Health, we use state-of-the-art qEEG equipment, computers, and software. Having a qEEG is a simple, painless process that takes a total of about 30-45 minutes. In a room at one of our clinics, you’ll sit quietly while a headset is gently placed on your head.

state-of-the-art

The headset looks similar to a helmet, except that it has electrodes attached that pick up the brain’s electrical activity. The electrodes on your scalp are connected to a device that captures the signals from the brain. That device is then wired to a computer that will read and interpret the signals the electrodes are receiving from the brain. It is a two part process.

  1. The electrodes will record your brain activity while you sit quietly for 6 minutes with your eyes open.
  2. The electrodes will record your brain activity for an additional 6 minutes while your eyes are closed.

Based on these two recordings of neural electrical activity, the computer monitor will show colored patterns—or maps—of your brain. With this information, we are able to evaluate your brain wave patterns and detect any imbalances that may be contributing to your symptoms. This can help us create a personalized protocol to help balance your brain and minimize your symptoms.
